Privacy Policy
Version 1.0 — Beta Release
Effective Date: July 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Tech Dad, Inc. (“Tech Dad,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information in connection with our subscription tech-support and scam-detection service, delivered through our website and our smartphone application (together, the “Service”). By creating an account, subscribing to, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
This is a Beta release (Version 1.0). Please review Section 14 carefully, as it describes important limitations and risks specific to the Beta test.
If your account is connected to a family member, please also review Section 2. A linked family member can see all of your data in the Service, including your full chat history and Scam Detector history.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information in order to operate and improve the Service:
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, and billing details provided when you create a subscription.
- Content you submit: the text you type and the photos or images you upload when using chat or the Scam Detector feature (for example, a message you're asking about, or a photo or screenshot of a suspicious text, email, or caller ID).
- Response data: the answers, assessments, and Scam Detector evaluations we provide to you.
- Device and usage information: app version, device type, operating system, and general usage logs needed to operate and troubleshoot the Service.
- Communications data: records of service-related emails, texts, and in-app notifications we send you, such as billing receipts, account notices, and product updates.
2. Family and Linked Account Access
Tech Dad is built to let a family member — such as an adult child — support another user, such as a parent, through a linked family account. If your account is linked to a family member, that family member can view all of the data associated with your account, including your complete chat history and your complete Scam Detector history (the text and photos you've submitted, our responses, and any scam assessments). This is full visibility, not a summary or alert — the linked family member sees the same information you see.
Before linking a family member to your account, make sure you are comfortable with that person having full access to this information. If you no longer want a family member to have this access, contact us at the address in Section 16 to unlink the account; unlinking stops future data from being shared going forward, but does not retroactively delete history that has already been shared, which is handled as described in Section 6 (Data Storage and Retention).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide, maintain, and personalize the Service based on your preferences and history;
- Operate the on-demand Scam Detector feature and provide in-app assessments to help you evaluate potential scams;
- Respond to your questions and provide customer support;
- Process subscription billing and manage your account;
- Maintain and improve the security, reliability, and performance of the Service; and
- Comply with applicable law.
4. Accuracy of Answers and AI-Generated Content
The Service uses automated and AI-assisted systems to generate answers and recommendations. We design these systems to be as helpful and accurate as possible, but we do not guarantee that any answer, response, or recommendation provided by the Service is complete, current, or 100% accurate. Information provided through the Service is for general informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as the sole basis for any financial, medical, legal, or other significant decision.
5. How Scam Detector Works
Scam Detector is an on-demand feature. You choose to submit text or a photo — for example, a suspicious message, email, or caller ID screenshot — directly within the app, and the Service analyzes what you submitted and returns an assessment to you inside the app. Scam Detector does not run in the background and does not monitor, scan, or access your email, text messages, or phone calls unless you actively choose to submit that content to us. We do not send separate email or text (SMS) alerts as part of Scam Detector; your assessment appears directly in the app.
As with all analysis performed by the Service, we do not guarantee that Scam Detector assessments are 100% accurate.
Scam Detector output is an opinion, not a verified determination. A result indicating that a message or communication may or may not be legitimate is our best assessment based on what you submitted, and should not be treated as confirmation of legitimacy or fraud. You should always independently contact your bank, utility, government agency, or other relevant service provider directly — using a phone number or contact method you obtain independently, not one provided in the suspicious message — to confirm whether any communication is genuinely from them.
6. Data Storage and Retention
We store the content you submit and the answers we provide in a database associated with your account. This allows the Service to learn your preferences over time and deliver more relevant, customized assistance. We retain this data for as long as your account remains active, or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
7. How We Protect Your Information
We treat the protection of your personal information as a top priority. We employ industry-standard security practices — including encryption, access controls, and monitoring — designed to safeguard your data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and this is particularly true during the Beta period described in Section 14, but we are committed to using best efforts and current industry practices to protect your information.
8. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes. We may share limited information with service providers who perform functions on our behalf — such as cloud hosting, payment processing, delivery of email/text notifications, and the AI provider described in Section 9 — solely to operate the Service, and only under contractual obligations that restrict their use of your data to those purposes. We may also disclose information where required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Tech Dad, our subscribers, or the public.
9. AI Provider and Use of Anonymized Data
The Service uses Claude, a large language model provided by Anthropic, to help generate responses and Scam Detector assessments. We do not train or fine-tune our own foundational AI models. Consistent with Anthropic's commercial API terms, the content you submit through the Service is not used by Anthropic to train its underlying models.
We may use anonymized and/or aggregated data — stripped of information that identifies you personally — to improve our own service logic, prompts, and Scam Detector accuracy as the Service grows. This anonymized data is used to refine how our Service works; it is not used to train the underlying AI model itself.
10. Affiliate Links and Recommendations
Some recommendations shown in the Service (for example, product recommendation cards) may include affiliate links, such as links to Amazon, and are labeled accordingly in the app. If you click one of these links and make a purchase, Tech Dad may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Any information collected after you leave the Service through an affiliate link (such as by the retailer's own site) is governed by that retailer's privacy policy, not this one.
11. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information, or to object to certain uses of it. You may exercise these rights, ask questions, or request that we delete your account and associated data, by contacting us at the address in Section 16.
12. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for use by adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
13. Changes to This Policy
Because the Service is in Beta, this Policy may be updated as the Service is refined. We will post the current version, along with its version number and effective date, within the app and on our website. Material changes will be communicated to subscribers by email, text, or in-app notice where practicable.
14. Beta Test Disclaimer and Assumption of Risk
This Privacy Policy applies to the Beta test version of the Service. The Beta version may not be fully developed, tested, or finalized, and its features — including the accuracy and reliability of answers and Scam Detector assessments — are still being refined. By using the Service and entering data during the Beta period, you acknowledge and agree that you do so at your own risk.
We will make best efforts to uphold the highest standards of data protection and service quality described in this Policy, but because the Service is still in Beta, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability, complete accuracy, or that all features will function as intended. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue Beta features at any time.
15. Governing Law
This Policy is governed by, and will be construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
